Hello, dear readers!
Firstly, and most importantly – apologies for the silence. Being an adult is crazy (see my most recent post) yet here I am, so the disappointment is now over. (Hah)
SPOILER ALERT: I’m definitely about to get all cliché and post about my new year resolutions/goals.
I have been structuring my ‘new year goals’ a little differently for a few years now. I believe this has been helped in setting my mindset for the year ahead, and the key to manifesting so many positive changes.
I tend to build my ‘resolutions’ around a generalised ‘bigger picture’, and then list smaller changes/tasks within this bigger goal. I create a list of big ways in which I would like for my life to improve and grow. Next, I break it down to small daily/weekly/monthly changes, and I find that I can actually fit a lot of these into my routine and find that it quite realistic to achieve everything I want to!
Feel free to take inspiration from mine below, or even steal some/all of them! Leave a comment below with the dreams you’re chasing in 2018.
PRODUCTIVITY & CLARITY (MIND)
KEEP MY DIARY/ORGANISER UPDATED DAILY
The only Christmas gift I wished for was a Lorna Jane Active Living Diary, and a pack of pastel highlighters. My lovely husband gifted these to me, and I’ve been using my diary every day since. Each morning (and during the day) I add tasks that need to be done, and (FUN PRODUCTIVITY TIP!) when they are complete, I get to highlight them! Yes, I needed the pastel Stabilo highlighters specifically.
BLOG AND POST TO INSTAGRAM MORE CONSISTENTLY
To be honest, this may not be possible for the first few months. I have so much content and ideas, yet my busy life doesn’t really allow for daily posts. Hopefully by mid-year, I will be blogging every 2-3 days, and posting to Instagram daily.
My problem is that I am a gosh darned perfectionist, so I won’t post anything unless it’s ‘exactly right’ however, this has let me down in the past, and I just need to jump right in! I also have to remember that there’s also no such thing as perfect.
KEEP A CLEAN AND TIDY HOUSE
I have to say, I can adult pretty well when it comes to certain things. The husband and I have been doing really well in keeping our home clean already (even with more room than we’re used to). We have daily tasks that are done, well, daily, without fail. Then there’s our weekend tasks, and I’ve made a plan of monthly and seasonal things we will need to be mindful of. You know, those things you can easily forget about for a year (or ten)? Things like cleaning the windows, flipping the mattress, or steaming the furniture. So, from easy daily tasks to bigger, annual tasks, let’s hope we keep our home clean and tidy – because it’s way easier than having to do everything after it’s all piled up!
FINISH MY FITNESS QUALIFICATIONS
I finished my nutrition coaching course last year, and plan to finally complete my fitness qualifications AS SOON AS POSSIBLE this year! Wednesday afternoon study dates, come at me.
READ A NEW BOOK EVERY 2 WEEKS
I can sooo do this! I have dedicated 10 minutes every night for reading. It will generate more content for my blog in the form of book reviews, while feeding my brain more luscious knowledge to share with you all!
MINIMISE MY POSSESSIONS
We don’t need possessions. I’ve recently moved, and have donated/thrown out, I would estimate, over 50% of my things. It was really quite depressing going through everything and realising how much I’d held onto. It felt sooo good to lighten the load, and I’m still getting rid of things.
I aim to keep only those that spark joy, and find a place for everything. I am also very keen to minimise my wardrobe in particular. Another project is to use all of my skincare/beauty products, so that they aren’t just sitting in a box, which in turn – again – will generate more content for my blog/insta!
This will also help in saving more money, as I will be spending less. Win, win, win!
FITNESS & HEALTH (BODY)
BE THE FITTEST AND HEALTHIEST I’VE EVER BEEN
Yep, the predictable one. Who doesn’t want to improve on their health every year, though? I think these goals are important to be both broad-spectrum, such as ‘be the fittest and healthiest I’ve ever been,’ while also comprising of smaller, specific goals. It is also important to ask yourself how ‘fitness’ or ‘health’ is defined for YOU.
A few of my smaller fitness goals include being able to run 5km, do 10 push-ups on my toes, and get to 25% body fat. Some fun ones include being able to do a handstand and cartwheel, and to do more yoga.
I will be developing an extremely detailed fitness and nutrition plan, with the help of good old Microsoft Excel, because I love the nitty gritty details and having some sort of plan I can tick off each day. This also helps to make sure I’m getting a balanced diet, and am not overworking myself with too much exercise. Rest days are important, too! (As well as cheat meals)
TRY A NEW RECIPE EACH WEEK
I have so many cookbooks, and a beautiful new kitchen, so I need to make this a year of trying new recipes and even cooking with new ingredients, while improving my cooking skills! (Also I’m a wife now, so, ya know – wifey skills)
CHOOSE MORE VEGAN OPTIONS
While a lot of the time I will make a conscious decision to choose the vegan option, there are always more opportunities for me to do this, and this year I will! Will I make it to a 100% vegan lifestyle? This is not realistic for now, but I am working towards it! My skincare and makeup options are already mostly (completely?) cruelty-free, yay!
RID MYSELF OF TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS, AND SOCIALISE WITH NEW PEOPLE
I really dislike writing about negative things, however – there are relationships I’ve found that are only bringing me down, or challenging my mental health. I am left exhausted, trying to extend myself to please others to keep the peace, or with the hopes that they will change. Making myself #1 means that I will no longer spend time on those who will not go out of their way for me. (I am actually even embarrassed to admit that I have even had the time for these types of relationships in the past)
In doing this, I will have more time for those whom I love, and also to put myself out there to meet new people! Recently, there have been a few acquaintances who have become closer friends, and I am enjoying spending time with them far more than the aforementioned.
SPEND MORE TIME IN NATURE
So good for my mental health. Instead of staying home on the weekend, I will make the effort to plan a getaway to a national park close by, or even just take a quick walk outside! Fresh air, sunshine, and getting my body moving is only good for me!
FUN & FREE (SPIRIT)
LEARN TO READ TAROT
Something fun I’ve wanted to do for so long! I have a few beautiful decks that I would love to get to start using. Nothing I will take too seriously, but why not, I think! Might be a fun ‘party trick’ or something to do with my girlfriends on the weekend.
MEDITATE MORE OFTEN
I love the sound of rain! Why wait until the weather decides to please? I can set up a space on the floor with cushions, pull out my yoga mat, and play some sweet rainforest tunes straight from YouTube! I don’t have to go full zen, I can simply breathe and disconnect. It’s amazing how much difference a little regular meditation can make.
BE MORE CREATIVE
This is a ‘spirit’ goal, as I have always thrived on creativity and making things, and know that I am definitely happier through these times. Periods of my life in which I am being artistic are definitely times in which I feel my spirit flying free, growing, and changing. I don’t want to tie myself down to one creative direction, because I have many different things that I want to do. Keep your eyes peeled for some artsy things from me!
SPREAD MORE POSITIVE VIBES
This can be done daily! Smiling to people, offering a hand where able, giving compliments… the possibilities are endless. Spreading positive vibes makes ME feel happier and honestly, healthier, so I want to make sure I’m spreading as much of the good stuff as possible this year! It hasn’t let me down so far!
